An insightful and interactive workshop on the ‘United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Agenda 2030’ was organized by the Centre of Research and Innovation in Maritime Affairs (CRIMA) at Minhaj University Lahore (MUL). The session was led by Dr Nusrat Ehsan, Assistant Professor at the Lahore Business School (LBS), who effectively engaged participants through a mix of informative discussions and hands-on learning activities. The workshop commenced with opening remarks by Dr Muhammad Ishfaq, Director CRIMA. He provided an overview of SDGs and explained sustainability and its critical link to the SDGs.
Dr Nusrat shared comprehensive knowledge of the 17 SDGs, explaining how they aim to address major global issues like poverty, inequality, climate change, and sustainable development. She encouraged students and faculty to think critically about the achievement of these goals at both local and global level. Engaging activities were conducted to involve participants in practical scenarios, fostering collaboration and creative solutions for achieving the SDGs. The workshop involved active participation from SDGs Supervisors, Ambassadors, as well as Co-Ambassadors from MUL, who contributed to discussions on how the SDGs could be integrated into academic research and university-led initiatives. She also shared examples of successful SDG projects from around the world, motivating students to consider their own contributions toward these goals.
Following Dr Nusrat's insightful session, Mr Asim Mehmood, Trainer and Head of the Career Management Cell at LBS, took the stage to offer his perspective on the role of personal and professional development in achieving the SDGs. He highlighted how career management strategies align with the SDGs, particularly in areas such as employment, education, and economic growth. The session ended with an interactive Q&A, allowing participants to raise concerns, share perspectives, and discuss potential challenges in realizing the SDGs. This exchange fostered a collaborative environment, where students and faculty alike left feeling empowered to take meaningful action within their communities. In his closing remarks, Prof Dr Sajid Mehmood Shahzad, Vice Chancellor MUL, praised the workshop's impact and stressed the need for continued efforts to achieve sustainability through the SDGs. He lauded CRIMA’s ongoing dedication to the global goals and encouraged participants to translate the workshop’s insights into practical initiatives.
