ABOUT CRIMA

Center of Research and Innovation in Maritime Affairs (CRIMA) since its establishment on June 8th, 2021, had made significant advancements, showcasing our unwavering dedication to maritime research and innovation. At CRIMA, a team of esteemed PhD doctors relentlessly endeavors to eliminate sea blindness from Pakistan, reflecting our commitment to addressing critical maritime issues.

Through 38 insightful seminars, two successful seasons of seafood festival, numerous workshops, and both winter and summer schools, along with the inaugural international maritime conference with participants from 17 countries, CRIMA has successfully fostered knowledge dissemination and facilitated dialogue.

Our focus extends across various maritime domains, encompassing safety, shipping, marine environment preservation, and beyond. CRIMA's impact transcends academia; we actively engage policymakers in Pakistan, offering valuable insights and recommendations that directly shape robust maritime policies. CRIMA publishes its quarterly newsletter ‘Nautical Eye’ a biannual Y-Category journal ‘Journal of Nautical Eye and Strategic Studies J-NESS’ bringing theoretical and empirical articles and research papers to the audience of maritime affairs.

Mission

To be an institute that embraces intellectuals and experts of maritime affairs to efficiently harness maritime potential, address problems and challenges faced by the maritime sector
To explore maritime futuristic aspects, study historical patterns of domestic and regional maritime issues, and discover consequences of maritime development of Indian Ocean Region (IOR) littoral states. 

Function

CRIMA functions under Minhaj University Lahore and primarily focuses on academic research pertaining to maritime affairs including Blue Economy.
Additionally, it is to provide relevant expertise to promote maritime awareness and scientific knowledge through seminars, workshops and symposiums as well as by publishing a quarterly newsletter and a biannual journal. 

Objectives
Centre of Research and Innovation in Maritime Affairs (CRIMA) is to accomplish the following objectives:

  • To provide effective policy insights for Pakistan’s maritime domain
  • To share academic input to public and private sectors in the form of extensive maritime research
  • To encourage participation of Pakistani entrepreneurs, mainly in shipping industry, both domestic and foreign level
  • To promote clean marine environment and address challenges of climate change
  • To build positive image of Pakistan at international level in order to boost maritime tourism
  • To produce and promote intellectuals and experts of the maritime studies 
  • To conduct research in different maritime zones to build a strong marine economy, and to enhance the harmonious coexistence between mankind and ocean for the sustainable development
  • To promote regional integration and coordination, especially with ocean economics in IOR periphery
  • To promote cooperation, expertise and knowledge liaison with academic institutes of other countries involving maritime studies
  • To foster academic cooperation with researchers of other national and international institutions.
